I captured this sound on my canon powershot a460 digital camera. It was a horrible night, with strong winds and heavy rain. I went to my garden shed and positioned my camera at the small window inside my shed as there is a small hole in the right hand corner of the window, and through this small hole the wind blows through it making this whistle sound, almost like a flute. Rode nt4 mic with a rycote wind muff on (slight attenuation of the higher frequencies is noticeable to my ears) sitting on a chair under an awning on my porch. I hit record slightly too late to catch the first couple of bell rings, but got most of it. First we hear the church signal 8pm, then we hear the courthouse do the same thing. Also some wind in the trees right above the mic, some rain, a bit of thunder, and some cars in a small town. Also a huge truck with loud engine that sounds almost like thunder towards the end, in fact it was mixed with thunder at one moment. Captured with maudio delta1010lt soundcard.

I recording made near some woods of the wind ebbing and flowing on an unusually mild day in late november of 2013. What i find unique about this recording is a lone cricket calling out at various times of this recording. . . Makes for a nice, almost melancholy feeling. It is almost like the cricket is not quite ready to hide away for the winter and is taking advantage of a rare 70-degree november day to call out as if to say "hey, i'm still here, waiting. . . In the grass. ". With headphones on, works wonders in clearing your head. . . Recording of molten lava slowly advancing forward at kilauea volcano, hawaii. The cooling thin crust of the lava and the movement produces constant popping and clicking like sounds. Some wind at the microphone disturbed the recording. Rare human sounds come from observers staying at the area. Recorded with zoom h2n, postprocessing in steinberg wavelab le (only normalization).

Recorded on a damp night from a beach house at wrightsville beach, north carolina. Audio has been treated for some wind. The whole recording was like an hour long but i couldn't upload that much. Tip: to extend the sound, you can cross-fade this sample pretty much anywhere with itself and the effect is virtually unnoticeable.

This is a very quick and dirty lo-fi recording of a very unsettling noise i am currently hearing outside of my 2nd story bedroom window. I have no clue what it could be. I have lived here for over a decade and never heard this sound. It's like wind, but it keeps fading in and disappearing again. When it starts, it sounding like very rapid, almost whistling, shallow breathing. I can't imagine what is making this sound, but it's pretty unnerving, and i'm too creeped out to open the curtains. I'm hoping someone can recognize this and tell me what this is because i'm starting to get very uncomfortable after about 10 minutes of hearing this on and off again. I am attempting to record it as it happens, so i've got several recorded instances of this if you want to hear more of it.

After checking my mail i was walking back to the house and heard this plane approaching. I always carry my yamaha pocketrak and got it going just in time to catch this low flyover. A recording made february 24th, 2019 in a residential section of a small midwestern town. . . The stiff north winds are rattling the remaining dry leaves. . . You will also hear the subtle singing of the birds that always greet you in late winter. . . Birds like house sparrows and starlings. From time to time, you'll hear the tinkly, nice sound of some wind-chimes hanging on the front porch of some house. The skittering of dried and old leaves scooting across the ground also makes an appearance. Enjoy this cold late-winter soundscape!. A short clip of a recording i made from my cbf600 motorcycle gearbox and chain. You can hear gearbox wine (normal), the sound of the chain running over the drive sprocket, some gear shifts and a little wind noise. I recorded it to see what it sounded like. It can make a good reference with which to compare should you think there is a problem in the future. I like the sound of the engine running and gears, normally drowned out by the exhaust. I clipped the mic to the gear lever. If i do it again i will place it further away from the sprocket.

I went out to the lake to record some ducks. This day they weren’t squawking as much as i’d hoped, but the wind was calmer than it normally is, and the wind really is your biggest enemy when making outdoor recordings like these. But overall, the recording isn’t bad. The ducks are smallish black ones with white beaks called the american coot. Lots of tweeting birds in there too, especially the first half, and i think those are just the normal small sparrows that you see everywhere. Couple people chatting, but they’re way in the distance. I like it when, in the presence of real people, we don't speak for a while. We just do something that we've agreed to do together in silence. Hail comes inthis was a strange storm. Tons of lightning, but only distant thunder. The rain was nearly falling vertically. Audio description: may 20, 2014. Hail comes in and pounds a deck outside for about a minute or so, then fades and raindrops themselves take prominence. The wind picks up, so you can hear wind chimes going at it and some deep rolling thunder far in the background. If you’ve experienced high winds before, it will probably sound scary to you at volume. A mid-sized waterfall flowing into a gentle stream. This is near the road by the grand prismatic spring in yellowstone. The timbre of this smaller fall is higher than the roar of the large waterfall. And you can just make out the gurgling of the stream. But, in general, this kind of thing sounds a bit like static. Sorry it's so short, there was a lot of wind and people talking. This is a sound i created by using three different things. I recorded my bathroom fan and altered the pitch, added a few cents and overlayed them at 50%, and added a band-pass filter. I also recorded batteries rolling across the bottom of a drawer, lowered the pitch a bit, and added a high pass filter. And then lastly i added some wind that i created by blowing into my hands. That i did not adjust at all. It sounds just like a thunderstorm.

This is a (-nother) synthetic soundscape i did some years ago, reminiscent of a wide, enclosed, dark cavern, very good for subtly underlaying film scenes playing in appropriate locations. Originally, it is a recording of me blowing on a beer-bottle, captured by a sennheiser condenser mic, and then receiving some attention by the yamaha multi-effects generator in my university back then. I still like and use it a lot today.

One of a series of heavily processed sounds i made using a small squeeze toy that just happens to be shaped like a cob of corn. I used s-layer, the sample-mangling plugin from twisted tools, to combine these swishy sounds with various other metallic and synthetic sounds from my own library. The results are dynamic and surprising, and might be useful for certain kinds of unusual ui sound design.

This is a recording of me vacuuming my carpet (a short carpet, not sure of the exact name of it), in a small studio apartment in kansas city, ks. It's recorded with the worst mic possible (a generic labtec microphone you can buy at an office supply store for like 10 bucks). I literally have no idea the vacuum brand, as i searched all over it for a whole minute, to no avail. But who cares the brand, because it sounds cool! (it has "120v~60hz 7amps" if that means anything to you) i am mainly vacuuming up kitty litter from the carpet because my cat likes to make sand castles for hours on end and she likes to think "outside the box" as it may. Oh, and there is an obstacle between the mic and the space i'm vacuuming, it's literally a screen room divider. I recorded this just because i thought it would be cool, plus i'm just starting an associates in audio engineering, so i figured i could get experience doing just about anything. From 1:00-2:00in the sky a long way behind me and to the left, but somewhat far in the air, a group of birds are fighting above a large group of trees that are shaped like a ball of veins. Most of the birds are crows, or just black birds; each noise they make is a series of “caws” no different from each other in pitch, tone, or frequency. There's also the sound of 3 small birds directly to my right around 5 meters away from me, making loud but shrill chirping sounds. The birds are each the same size but and are hopping around the perimeter of a cactus right behind them. The wind blows onto the right side of my body and the front of my body. Waves from the ocean are crashing directly behind me, each in long sessions. The way they sound is consistent, like the sound of rain. Occasionally one of the waves will crash, increasing in volume but not in pitch or tone.

Recorded during riding by attaching a zoom h4n at my left leg. The xy-microphone pointed vertically direction to the seat/engine, so no spectacular stereo-sound, but different sound timbre on l/r. The exhaust had a rusted hole so it's not the original vespa-sound but more rough. Different styles of driving. Including starter and switching off. Description : rain is pouring louder and louder, rolling thunder strikes periodically, exploding like a gunshot or echoing from one moutain to another. Two contact microphones recording an engine from a mini cooper s in sport mode. Surprisingly aggressive-sounding. Intended to use for a race car asset. Contact microphones are stethoscope-like mics that you place onto a surface to record vibrations. This way, i was able to record the raw engine without wind or perspective. I'm attempting to create a controllable thunderstorm for a film, and this is my first legitimate attempt. This recording consists of 4 samples of rain, and another 3 samples of rain+thunder that i recorded one afternoon. Equipment used was the inbuilt mics on a roland r-26, and a sennheiser me66 into a sound devices 702. The clips were recorded at 96khz/24-bit, and they were processed at 48khz/24-bit. For processing, i put the samples into kyma, and crossfaded for texture. The howling wind sound is an analog-style low pass filter's frequency, level, and resonance being controlled by a wacom intuos4 pen/tablet. The rain slowly swells, which was done by changing parameters of a granular reverb. The thunder was also controlled by the wacom tablet, with x, y, and z (pressure) dimensions mapped to making the thunder swell in level, density, and texture. This could have been output in surround, but i don't have that many monitors ;). This style of "rain-synthesis" can also go on indefinitely. Please let me know what you think of the quality of this track; eg, if it sounds real, if the wind sounds ridiculous, too much thunder, etc. Use this sound (wherever) if you want to, or let me know if you'd like an mp3 of this, or for it to last longer. An ambient, white noise wall of sound recorded as i walked through our well ventilated university print shop. You can hear a variety of machine noises that layer to create a constant hum, with a swelling rise and fall like occasional waves. Some of the vents whistle, some tick or click and purr. Near the very end, there is a single sharp click. The ventilation system is an anti-fume tube series used for printmaking. Recorded on a microtrack ii. General information: recorded indoors on handheld microtrack while walking from room to room. No noticeable footstep sounds. No voices. Room has high ceilings and cement floors.

Tiny waves lapping the quartzite pebbles (1-2cm diameter) on a beach at lake pedder. Recorded 21 march 2019, 3am, with marantz pmd661 and rode nt55. Exceptionally quiet night, no wind, no other sounds. The gordon river power station was 20 kms distant. Other mechanical equipment or vehicles greater then 50 kms. I could just perceive the electrical hum from the station (or from transmission lines), and so could my partner, but i can’t hear it on the recording. At 1. 30 on the recording you can hear my partner’s soft cough coming from our tent 50m away. I just love this deep rich harmonic sound with some phase modulation! i've tried to capture it the last month and half and finally managed it. There's quite a lot of air traffic (planes and helicopters) here in prague - písnice, but most of the helicopters have poor sound. It is bell 407 helicopter ok-alb in black/beige color operated by blue sky service (http://www. Ok-alb. Com/). Flight mode-s code a37a9ea. First it approaches with the deep harmonic sound, then it flies by overhead with a more noisy mid-spectrum sound. Recorded on zoom h4nsp, this time with 4gb sd card which has far lower startup time than 32 gb one (like 12 secs compared to more than a minute). Besides the helicopter itself there are some birds singing, insects buzzing and some rumble from the wind (i didn't manage attach the deadcat windshield so quickly). Basic frequency: ~ 33. 87 hz. This replica of my tinnitus was created using the free program called audacity. Http://audacityteam. Org/i had to generate 3 different 'tones' and combine them before i felt the high-ish noise was close to what i hear. I then had to search freesound for something that i only hear beneath the high pitch noise when my house is very quiet, which is something like the sound of strong wind outside a closed window or a power station a mile away. So, not being an expert with audacity, i just went down the list of 'effects', trying each one, until i found "paulstretch", which somehow increases the time length of your sound file, without stretching as in 'elastic', which would deepen the existing tones, and apparently, without copying and pasting. The sound does change somewhat, becoming just slightly ragged, but it's a very interesting effect for this application and actually got used on both elements to produce the final sound. . I hope no one enjoys this sound and can't imagine that anyone will. It makes me feel slightly sick. . Info edited 28 oct 2021: with my tinnitus at it's current level, i will never, now, be able to reproduce it again, primarily because i can't hear any sounds i create in a detailed way. And secondly, because hearing this version of the sound these days is just too uncomfortable. 🥲.

I made this recording with my newly acquired $10 primo em172 omni mic capsules, which i soldered to a cable diy loosely based on this tutorial:http://www. Wildmountainechoes. Com/equipment/diy-stereo-electret-mics-primo-em-172-capsules/this is a good example of what the capsules sound like when plugged directly into an inexpensive zoom h1 audio recorder. So far i've been pretty stunned by the performance of these capsules, which are significantly more sensitive than the built in microphones on the h1, and to my ears sound much less muddy. I'm particularly impressed by this because the capsules are running on the 2. 5v of plug-in power that the h1 delivers, which is below the minimum specs of the capsules. Even so there is remarkably little noise. I can only imagine how they would sound with a battery pack to deliver a full 5 volts!.

While on holiday staying in a country cottage near some cow fields, there was a mother cow and what must have been her 2 calves which had been put into separate fields either side of a road. This was obviously pretty distressing for the cows and so they were constantly mooing at each other and being the kind of guy i am, of course i recorded it!. I have done as much as i can to reduce wind and other background noises (the windshield i have for my dr-07 doesn't seem to do a lot except make it look like it's got a 70s afro) and have trimmed all the cow sounds out and put them together into this one file. Some are better than others, it was hard to know which cow was gonna make a noise next.
